Why put todays date or not when it came out?

Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
Because that’s the date listed on the website this comes from. You can see the year it was published in the comic itself.
It’s on https://www.thefarside.com/ today as one of the “Selections of classic The Far Side comics.” Comic says ©1984, but doesn’t give a specific date (an image on reddit suggests 4/6/84).
