Yes it is free as in free beer, it connect to a network based on an open protocole of federated free (as in freedom) software instances. It also value users privacy and respect their digital integrity, could do more to that but it’s not even comparable to reddit lol.

Freedom as in FOSS? I vaguely remember the dev saying they may OS it eventually but yes for now it’s closed. Still free though.
