I have the “I hate feeling wet/oily when I’m supposed to be dry” autism. I also have the “It feels like 10s of itchy razor-blade cuts when my skin is so dry it cracks” autism. This cold front has my skin too dry and cracked. It’s about to be worse than air drying after swimming at the beach and then putting on a shirt. I’m running out of meltdown prevention juice. Does anyone have any lotion or other remedies? I’m like 3 tragedies away from meltdown.

Winner: CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion!! And CeraVe PM for the faceeee!! I feel my skin starting to be less mad at me already. Thank you everyone!

10s of itchy razor blade cuts

I am in this post and I don’t like it! I have that kind of autism as well, with a garnish of psoriasis on top. I’ve been using this from Cera Ve-https://www.cerave.com/skincare/moisturizers/daily-moisturizing-lotion

Thick lotions feel like spreading icing on my skin or something, but this feels like giving it a drink. I use an applicator to spread it on my back and I don’t have any issues with shirts after it’s rubbed in and dried for a minute or two. It is painfully pricey but the XL bottles last me 2-3 months (my last one was $18.50), so it’s not bad overall

I hope you find something your skin likes 🤞

Thank you! This is the 4th time I’ve seen CeraVe recommended online, so I’m going to try some out.

What do you use for a back applicator? Never mind. Found some online. I had never heard of them.

I was coming to recommend CeraVe. I apply it in like, layers- so I’ll apply a teeny bit, then a teeny bit more, and keep doing that, and rubbing it in each time, until it’s all absorbed, and it stops absorbing. Then I might, if I’m bothered or touching stuff, wipe off the extra at the end with a towel.

But like reddfugee said, if you do it before bed, it’s so much better, because you can just lay down and let it absorb!

Really hope you get there. It’s a hard thing to do.

I don’t know what kind of dissociative states you guys are practicing putting on lotion and then getting in bed 😖, but I will not partake in any of that! lol jk…a little. I got the CeraVe and it is fantastic! thank you :)

My wife (who’s not on the spectrum) uses “CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion” for her eczema. I use it during Colorado winters. It does trigger my “wet/oily when I’m supposed to be dry” briefly, but far far less than almost any other lotion.

The only one better I’ve found is “up & up extra repair unscented body lotion” which not only doesn’t trigger me at all, but the initial “lotion” feeling dissipates within seconds of rubbing it in. It leaves my hands actually feeling soft and smooth (which the CeraVe does not).

The only reason I mentioned the CeraVe is because my wife is buying it anyway, so it’s around, and its fine.

The Up & Up feeling is what I’m looking for. I’m going to Target today. Thank you very much!

I’m in the same boat as you, I can’t deal with greasy hands. So in the winter, I put on a good amount of O’Keefs Working Hands right before I go to sleep for the night. The sticky lotion feeling doesn’t bother me when I’m falling asleep since I’m not using my hands for anything, and by the morning my hands are a lot less dry and the stickiness is gone.

Working Hands shouldn’t feel sticky or oily. You’re probably putting on too much. A small dollop the size of a pencil eraser is more than enough for both hands.

I’m super into skincare and have tried many different moisturizers. These are the ones I’m currently using and love them 🩷

Face (though you can use the big tub for body, too):

    • Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream

    Body:

    • Dermalogica Body Hydrating Cream, Body Lotion with Green Tea and Lemon Oil
    • La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream

I use two different ones on my body, depending on the area.

The creams will sit on your skin until they are absorbed, but they leave skin hydrated for 48-72 hours.

For more lightweight ones (also more affordable) - Face:

    • CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

    Body:

    • CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for Dry Skin

I recommend buying the smaller sizes to start so that you can gauge your reactions to them. Good luck!!

Nice! I wish I had that drive for skin care like you do. I tend to wait too long. I’ve seen CeraVe recommended a lot, so I’m gonna give those a shot along with the Up & Up Target brand. Thank you!

Same boat, OP. Despise lotions but my hands are a cracked wasteland if t left to their own devices. A compromise that seems to work: generic eczema cream (active ingredient colloidal oatmeal), grimace and bear the application, and then wear cheap white cotton gloves. Ideally just before bed to minimize the icky feeling. The gloves help my hands feel dry, and I don’t have to worry about getting goop on anything.

Nothing, just not dry and sore. It also has SPF. I use it for my face after showering, and I am very, very aware of oily or filmy stuff on my face. Feels like nothing.
