Should I…uh, should I step into Warframe?

I never ever played it and I’d like to understand what the fuss is all about.

Please note I’m playing exclusively on Desktop Linux and Steam Deck

@[email protected] of you decide to give it a shot, don’t rush it, let the game’s systems digest at your own pace. It’s a huge game with over a decade of feature/scope creep. The main questline & story is wonderful (if you know nothing about the game, the second dream is/was a HUGE spoiler that many people still respect, myself included), the gunplay and visual fidelity are fantastic, and the game runs perfectly fine on the Steam Deck!

It’s a fantastic game to pick up, run a few missions, craft a few things, put down for the night and pick back up tomorrow. It’s also a very dense and at times grindy game. I’ve been playing it on and off since it released on steam, and even I’ve felt burnt out on it after a while.

I’ve been playing solo-only for years now and on Linux for the past 5 years. I love the lore and the gameplay. The story quests are repeatable (most of them) and I’m personally very happy to replay them. There’s a lot of moving parts but no sense of rush or a time crunch, so I consider it very relaxing, again personally.

Sure, why not. It’s free and it’s a pretty good time.

It is mostly about farming and that being a nice experience though. They have introduced a lot of lore that is pretty good, but the core loop is about the farm.

So you can very early on tell if you like the game, because the game is like that from the start. If you don’t enjoy the loop after the first… 10 missions, you can “safely” quit.

@[email protected] It’s a nice game, missions can be fun, for me it works perfectly on Linux Mint. However, on the long run, farming takes a big place and can be time-consuming. I have friends to play with so we can trade and play together, but if you’re alone it can be a bit boring.

Probably one of the most repetitive games you’ll ever play. Some people like this. I do not.

To balance this a bit, I do not like repetition in my games, but Warframe’s movement system keeps me coming back to play as long as my friends are also playing. I find Warframe a much more interesting game than Diablo or WoW, but I can still run through missions with friends without having to think too hard about what we’re playing. In Satisfactory or Factorio, I find myself struggling to concentrate on the conversation when I’m building something.

I don’t do pickup groups in Warframe unless I just need to smash out a few objectives in a short amount of time. When I’m with my friends we play slow and explore; it’s worth it, it’s a very pretty game.
