Well… What did people think would happen after the first Trump-Ukraine scandal? That he wouldn’t hold a grudge?
Trump was sorta known for this way before he got into politics.
He’s a petty little orange bitch.
That and reneging on past promises. Bet Ukraine regrets giving up their nukes on a promise from the US for protection.
What’s even more troubling for nuclear proliferation reduction efforts is the weight any such promises will have in the future: “no thanks, I’ll keep my nukes, thanks-you I don’t want to me Ukrained”.
And on the flip side, Russia’s nukes are the reason that aid for Ukraine was only gradually ramped up and came with strings attached, for fear of provoking them. It makes it pretty clear that the world can be divided into those who have nukes and those who don’t.
And that was before Trump started talking with Putin about how best to slice up Ukraine. Oh and also threatening to annex his neighbors. The world looks that much more unstable, and anyone relying on norms, allies or international law for their security will probably want to reconsider that position.
Can we get a best 2 out of 3 on Cold Wars?
Cold War? We’re best buddies now.
Right? We’re gonna be at war with Mexico, Canada, Ukraine, Denmark, and all their friends.
Meanwhile we get to have Russia (+ North Korea), Israel, and potentially China as our Allies.
Wonder who’s gonna be called the Axis or Allies this time?
