@[email protected] is it though? I mean quake was source available from pretty much day1 and gpl not too long after, it doesn’t give you the rights to the name and trademarks so it’s not like you can freely distribute it as is, it mostly just lets people make TCs, mods, and fan patches and distribute them freely without any downsides. Opening up the older games in your series to be maintained by fans instead of paying to maintain them has worked for others, there’s a lot of value in keeping a name known
@[email protected] While I personally agree with you, it is not in EA’s nature to allow their brands to flourish without profiting from it :xigbarsmirk:
IMO if they had any intention of pursuing the franchise themselves, the suits would see this as diluting the market or directly competing with whatever product they wanted to release in the future.
Not saying they’re right. Just saying that’s their track record.
@[email protected] also, can we talk about how incredibly well everything is commented and how clean the code is? i mean…damn, I did not expect anything near that when i opened it up…sure it has it’s hacks but there’s structure, it’s very readable, and VERY well commented.
@[email protected] FOR REAL. Westwood was apparently crushing it more than we ever knew.
@[email protected] it’s not in their nature to release anything more than 6 months old either though, they have a habit of just vaulting and holding onto franchises until people literally forget about something that used to be the market leader.
I wonder if the market as it is has forced them to let people with an actual sense of what their fans want in charge, i mean they also just recently put the sims 1 on steam…finally.
