While a “Reuse & Repair Center” seems pretty harmless from a geopolitical perspective, this seems like very strange timing on the part of ASML. I doubt the current American administration is interested in details or nuance.
I think ASML can kinda do what they want. My understanding is that they make the cutting edge fab equipment. So if the US gov tries to play hardball, ASML can just sell their stuff to other countries.
The thing is a lot of the ultra high-tech processes ASML uses rely on patents belonging to US actors such as universities. That’s the arm twist the US use to forbid them from selling to some countries.
But if the Orange One insists on isolationism and full on trade war, that destroys a lot of incentives for ASML to honor the patents system.
