I just got my first ereader, and am wondering if anyone has suggestions as to where I can purchase books but also download them (.epub, etc) after purchasing. I want to support the authors, but I also want to actually own the thing I’m paying for. Is ebooks.com a good option?
https://bookshop.org/ is a good option. I often use booksamillion.com too.

Edit: Looks like bookshop.org only lets you download them if they’re DRM free. Maybe this is common practice and what I’m after doesn’t actually exist.
Yeah bookshop.org screwed the pooch on their rollout. They honestly think people want to read books on their iPhones all day.
They claim there is a coming Kobo partnership.
Perhaps I misunderstood the question. Personally, I have a workflow where I can strip DRM from library books I get off of Libby, but I only do so when I already own it. Perhaps that’s an option in a way?
I’ve used Libby a bunch, but mostly with the “Send to Kindle” option, or just the integrated reader. How do you get the file to read it other ways? I’m thinking of replacing my Kindle with a Kobo color model.
There’s a “Read with…” option under Manage Loan that lets you pick the epub file. Some don’t allow it, but most I’ve encountered do.
I do the same, I just wish my library had digital copies of all the books on my bookshelf! I have had luck using the same method to strip the DRM from an epub I bought from Kobo’s shop, but I don’t know if it would work with bookshop.org. I’d like to be able to support local bookstores, but their current model just doesn’t work for me.
