Do american stores have magazines next to the checkout line? I have seen the others at checkouts but never magazines. Those were always placed separately.
Yeah, I was also confused by the “impulse buy at checkout” connection. My mind immediately went to “you can probably get this stuff at a bodega, New Yorkers love their bodegas”.

Magazines are in the line at the register in Australia too. Or at least were when I was a kid…I haven’t paid attention to what’s there since then.
Charging cable was the one that was weird to me. I cannot imagine buying a charging cable as an impulse purchase. Tbh I thought this connection was going to be “things in an airport shop”.
