Lol what grandstanding is this. They said no, then weeks later said okay yes, with this one change coming out months later which Microsoft doesn’t even care about.
It’s clear from the last 30 years of civil servants being overruled by decision makers on issues around Microsoft that the UK is essentially just going to do what certain big companies tell it to do. Back in the 2000s there was a big push from inside the UKs agencies to de Microsoft themselves, that didn’t last long before word came down to remicrosoft themselves.
Who got them to re-microsoft? Was the government lobbied?
Is UK prepared to block Microsoft from operating in the UK? Because if they’re not then they can still be bullied. I hope something comes of this.
they should get the TV license enforcers on Microsoft, those guys are the certified bullies of the UK
Not sure what the over-reliance on microsoft is for these days.
There are so many free alternatives, it just makes sense to use them rather than pay the windows tax.
Not sure what the over-reliance on microsoft is for these days.
The same it has been for decades inertia and the cost of retraining/switiching over.
Outlook and excel basically run most businesses.
It’s for Microsoft to make more money. They lobby for it and ensure that decision makers decide to use Microsoft. They aren’t alone in this, of course, but they are very good at doing it.
Change is difficult, but we will be better off if we can go to the trouble to leave Windows behind.
The CMA is in the wrong here. Almost every other country in the world approved the deal without any changes needed, while the UK are complaining about the near non existent cloud gaming market.
UK has a relatively large gaming sector. Cloud gaming shouldn’t just be handed to Microsoft.
It’s not large in any way, and this wouldn’t “hand it to Microsoft”.
It’s a nascent industry, it’s not large, yet. And the UK has the largest gaming sector in Europe.

But the CMA has forced them to sell it to Ubisoft, so they won’t be able to control the pricing.
The CMA have done their job.
“Their job” being……what exactly here? Hamstringing one of the only companies that’s actually investing in cloud gaming?
Their job is to manage markets and to reduce monopolies.
One of the only companies? Netflix literally just announced a cloud gaming service. Sony has one, Nvidia has one, Amazon Luna, Shadow
But sure just let Microsoft have another monopoly…
It wouldn’t let Microsoft have a monopoly though. How would it?
Er, the same way they have with several other products?
