I started using Summit a week or two ago, and I really like it. It’s a great Lemmy app. But I notice my phone’s battery life has taken a hit since then.
According to battery usage, I’ve been using Summit slightly more than the Reddit app, but Summit has consumed much more battery.
These numbers don’t seem right to me. According to this Reddit used 8% of your battery after 5h of screen time. That means it would take over 62h of screen on time on Reddit for your battery to completely drain. This doesn’t sound realistic. Even the S24 Ultra and Pixel Pro XL can only last ~12 - 14h under heavy use.
I can however confirm from my own usage of Summit, on a S24 Summit uses about 10% - 13% per hour of screen use. This lines up with the approximate 10h battery life of the S24 under heavy use.
Can you you let me know which phone you are using as well? Thank you.
Edit
Also, if you don’t mind, could you please DM me with your app settings? You can generate a dump of your settings by: Tap the three dots button (bottom right) on the home screen. Tap Settings. Tap Import & export settings. Tap Export settings.Tap Copy to clipboard.
Thanks for looking into this.
IIRC I get around 2% or 3% battery usage per hour with Sync (for Lemmy) and Reddit. I’m going to try bouncing back and forth between the three for a comparison.
I’m using a Pixel 8 Pro.
I’ll send my settings.
Thank you for sending me your settings. I’ve gotten a couple of performance/battery usage complaints recently. The one commonality I identified so far is “Mark post as read on scroll”. I’ve made some performance improvement changes related to this feature in the next release which will hopefully reduce battery usage.
That’s awesome! Thanks!
I’ll give it a shot when I get the upgrade and post here.
The release is now live as v1.58.2. Please give it a try and let me know if the battery usage is better.
Will do! Thanks!
