I really enjoyed reading the Doris A. Paul book The Navajo Code Talkers, parts that have stuck with me:
They couldn’t swim very well during seals training so they walked across the bottom of the pool
Desert ranger training was a fucking joke to them
They actually preferred the older radio models because it could block bullets
They thought the white men would respect their service when they returned home. Sadly, that was far too optimistic, this was before even the civil rights movements after all.
