    Most info screens these days are powered by a browser, even dot matrix screens. The browsers have all the graphical tools built in to create any kind of UI and they support any screen size and resolution. Creating all of that yourself is a waste of time, money and energy (read more pollution). And browsers can run on very low end hardware without any issues. First iPhone and Android phones were super under powered, yet came with a fully functional browsers.

      There are a lot of native GUI toolkits that can adapt to any resolution. The thing is there are a lot more web developers then there are desktop developers nowadays. So it’s cheaper to develop for web.

      Web apps are actually more “polluting” as the JIT compilers and VMs needed to run them add overhead. Just compare electron apps to native apps to see which is more responsive / consumes more CPU / more memory.

    I saw a “please activate windows” on a burger King order machine. Those things run windows! What a joke.
