You might just need to consider yourself lucky, then, because I’ve met several people this bigoted and have absolutely heard some derivation of this numerous times.

My mother in law was almost crying with joy when I (a white guy) was eating her dinner with my hands for the first time. I was just confused at what the fuss was. Remember we all live in our bubbles.

Look for a local charity vid from southeast Asia. Local people who make these huge portions of food for the impoverished are usually scooping the rice and curry with their hands. Normal people will see this and say “hell yeah glad they’re supporting each other” while a racist would call it dirty and make a white savior bit out of it.

Ya but I also think it’s ok to react to foreign cultures in a variety of ways. There isn’t one way we have to be all the time. If someone is grossed out by something they’ve never seen before then they aren’t automatically a bigot or racist.

If someone scooped up my rice with their hands I’d not want the rice. We use utensils for serving things and I’m sure other cultures have a variety of opinions about that. I’m sure I’d get used to it if I moved somewhere where it was normal.

For me it depends on the food, and honestly it’s more for the person serving. Serving rice, Naan, other dry-ish foods with your hands? Sure.

If you’re scooping out a curry or stew with your bare hands that strikes me as odd.

I’m happy to hear that’s the case for you, unfortunately my relatives are pretty terrible and seem to look for any opportunity to be shitty

Usually you hear this from the kind of people who insist it’s not a meal without boiled meat and any steak cooked under well done is raw.
