Evening y’all, me and a buddy of mine have been scouting locations around the Squamish area that work well for Camping that also won’t cause issues if firearms are discharged.
We checked out Furry Creek trying to see Witch Peak today however, the trail was gated off and had a sign up from BC Hydro/BC Wildlife that stated no shooting which bummed us out, any suggestions are much appreciated!
Note: Hunting isn’t our intention, we intend to bring paper/metal targets with us for our non-pal/CORE holding friends.
Edit: Doesn’t have to be the Squamish area, we hoped the area would work because of the views.
You’ll probably have to go boondocking. Any official provincial campground, recreation site or Hydro campground will be a no shooting area.
That said, when camping around Harrison lake I’ve heard my fair share of gunshots (and bear bangers) and I’ve seen signs of .22 shots and the occasional 9mm on signs. Lots of helmetless yahoos on ATVs up there too. It’s been a while since I went up there now. It was a long FSR up the west side of Harrison to a Rec Site. The road washed out a while back and I think a landslide caused a mini tsunami that washed out half the campground, so I don’t know if it’s there anymore.
You can try the iOverlander app to find boondocking spots. You’ll want to try to get way up an FSR and away from civvies. You’ll probably scare the shit out of any couples or lone campers up there on their own, even if you don’t think they should have anything to fear.
And please, please don’t combine shooting with booze, and shoot into the mountain.
Weird, I must’ve accidentally deleted my previous comment? Apologies.

Yeah, we aren’t trying to be rowdy and obnoxious. Ideally we would like to be as far away from other people as possible.
My buddies know the Harrison scene and rather keep away from it, we were thinking of scouting out near Silver Skagit Road but worried we’ll run into another locked gate.

Thank you for this, I’ll give the app a try!

I like to say we take safety regulations quite seriously while also understanding the fact that part of the fun of camping is drinking, so we’ve decided to only dedicate one night of drinking and the next day use our empties as part of our targets, obviously our firearms are locked and kept away out of sight and out of mind that night.
And of course we’ll watch our background and ensure nothing strays out of our path.
I appreciate your feedback, thanks a lot!
