The Alaska Supreme Court ruled that Kenneth J. Jouppi could be forced to forfeit his plane as a penalty after trying to fly alcohol into a dry Alaskan community.

      into a dry community.

Typically there is a reason communities are “dry” as anyone who’s lived in rural areas will tell you and it isn’t as pleasant as “just because”. Also I don’t know why multiple articles (including this one) are framing it like this. Dude had three cases of beer on the aircraft according to the legal document.

Just because some people can’t handle their alcohol doesn’t mean that everyone shouldn’t have any. That just leads to awful side effects like this.

I don’t necessarily agree with taking the dudes aircraft, though this is likely a known punishment to pilots. However, there are communities with high levels of unemployment and subsequently high rates of alcohol abuse, alcohol related violence and anti-social behaviour. Unfortunately, when a large proportion of the community abuse alcohol all day and fight in broad daylight, this is what happens as a result.

People who are employed, women, children and so on are the ones who have their safety impacted because of it. I grew up in a rural city and the was a lot of drinking going on and we weren’t even made a dry town. One close to us did and for good reason. That’s just my country though, I don’t know if the US makes areas “dry” just because; although it would be on brand with its government if it did.

Dry counties and Sunday liquor laws need to go. It’s my right if i want to ruin my liver on “God’s” day. Separation of church and state don’t mean much anymore.
