Is it one of those limestone drains where you freeze to death? Generally, rainwater either fills in low points, or creates a path downhill. In some places it just sinks through the ground. Cold air settles in at night, the coldest air sinks to the bottom, and if you can see stars then you’re bleeding heat into the vacuum of space.
