I think that’s the final nail in the coffin for me.

I would like to mention Eternity is being made as fork from Infinity.

They have a community you can find here:

    [email protected]

For more information and updates but their Codeberg page can be found here. You can also find downloads of the latest version there. I think they mentioned trying to get it on F-Droid at some point like Infinity is.

You can patch some reddit apps like Sync and use your own api key. Even if you don’t browse reddit, it’s nice to be able to open the occasional link in a pleasing UI.

“Moron” would mean that that asshole did it by accident. Steve Huffman is a fucking, capitalistic greedy fucker and should be fired and deported to Apples HQ in Russia. Would be the perfect place for him.

I also don’t understand this. If I have my own, personal API key, and supposedly I can use it for free. Then if I write my own app, without releasing it on Play Store, I can’t use it with my own API key? Why not? Is there any mentioning of this explicitly against the rules?

                Yes, check the TOS

Also you can’t have a part of the app that prompts a user to create a api key

Edit: I’m not sure if this is true after a few comments on reddit. I’ll see if I can get clarification from the dev

Afaik I can request my key on Reddit. Then I, all by myself, create an Android app for myself, completely from scratch, never release it to anywhere, just have it on my phone. So not Revance an existing , seriously program one from zero. It would be personal use, would it not?

Good question. Those API keys are supposed to be unique to the app using it. Patching in your own isn’t something you’re supposed to do, but it is indeed possible

Some apps taking serious steps towards a subscription model have been granted extra time by reddit. There were conditions, but there were at least a few of them (Infinity and Relay are the ones that come to mind, but there was at least one more that I can’t remember right now).

where are you getting August 30th from?

nvm. lol you cant even see nsfw posts with the subscribed version. I don’t see why the Dev would even bother.

Infinity taking a few months to die gave me the time to get my alternatives ready: Lemmy, general usage. GBATemp, gaming stuff and jailbreaks. Mastodon, off topic stuff.

I’m greatful for the extra couple months. It gave Lemmy time to grow before I have to 100% commit to leaving Reddit.
