Oleander Hawk-moth
Daphnis neriiSpotted by Dan Doucette
Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana
Spotted on Dec 20, 2003
Description: Freshly emerged specimen with exceptionally bright and purple colors. I did not change the color on this photo or edit it strongly, besides a small crop and a hint of brightness. I have also added the original, unedited photo.
Habitat: rainforest
Notes: I spotted this on the wall of the guesthouse at Baobeng Fiema monkey sanctuary. Thanks to experts Latimeria, bayucca and Roy Goff for confirming that this is D. nerii.
What a fabulous moth
That looks awesome.
Why is the color balance so off? Are these guys really purple?
It’s not OC and I’m not an expert, so I cannot answer.
But, from the description:
I did not change the color on this photo or edit it strongly, besides a small crop and a hint of brightness. I have also added the original, unedited photo.
Here it is the unedited one:
I can’t get over the fact that it looks so much like a piece of fabric!
