“Oops I’ve fallen. Guess I’ll die.”
Big chicken
If ever there was a dinosaur that should be shown with feathers, this may be it
Edit: I have been proven conclusively wrong, good day. Ill bet it wished it had feathers, though. Struttin around like that.
Unfortunately for Carnotaurus:
Carnotaurus was further characterized by small, vestigialforelimbs and long, slender hind limbs. The skeleton is preserved with extensive skin impressions, showing a mosaic of small, non-overlapping scales approximately 5 mm in diameter. The mosaic was interrupted by large bumps that lined the sides of the animal, and there are no hints of feathers.
Scalation was similar across different body parts with the exception of the head, which apparently showed a different, irregular pattern of scales.[AL][15]There is no evidence of feathers.[7] Larger bump-like structures were distributed over the sides of the neck, back and tail in irregular rows.
That’s so cool that we’ve come so far that a fairly fringe notion in my own childhood in the 90s is now not only presented as fact but so clearly presented going “and here’s how we know!”
It’s neat that I’m wrong
I also just want to say, I only found this when I went looking to find what kind of feather patterns they might’ve had lol
Ever got an appetite so bad you started looking like this that it even shook the Sun and popped it back to chickensize.
Looks like it would fall over standing like that
consider that the body is full of lungs and airsacks and hollow bones (i think, definitely lungs at the very least) while the tail is basically just solid muscle, and iirc the pivot point of the hips is actually a pretty good deal further forward than you’d think.
They also don’t have to be completely evenly balanced, it’s normal for there to be some muscle effort involved to stand up, that’s why animals generally like laying down when they can.
I think the tail is shown in perspective, pointing away from the viewer. It’s much bigger and would have been an effective counter balance. It’s also probably still affected by the “shrink-wrapped dinosaur” phenomenon and actually had much meatier bits, we just don’t know where. Hell, it could have had elephant trunk-like noodle arms and we wouldn’t know it. How terrifying would that have been?? https://pleated-jeans.com/2024/11/02/paleo-artist-shrink-wrap-animal-pictures/
Doesn’t matter. Anyone would be scared shitless facing down a 10-20ft chicken. It might look stupid but it could kill you easily.
There are some really cool people, and then there are people who trash Carnotaurus. I mean, just look at that guy
He even has the same expression as the dino.
Needs more flamboyant plumage.
there’s a hypothesis that they used their arms as display structures

I dunno. A dinosaur that’s impossible to disarm sounds badass.
Armosaur, more like Armsaresmall! Amirite?
I’m curious where this series of dino posts goes next
