A really interesting video about the possible culprits of out-of-spec cables.

This makes me even more wary of my charging habits, maybe some of them only work due to me plugging them in correctly all the time. What if the connector is actually only making a really poor contact and getting hot?

The device is aware of the connector temperature specifically?

Battery monitoring, sure, but I wasn’t aware connector monitoring, at least as a standard practice in phones etc

I mean it’s not that complicated of a problem, I’ve had micro USB cables do the same thing to me back in the day. It seems like the specifications are pretty clear 🤷‍♂️

Yeah the cable has problems, but it’s what we’ve settled on, and personally I’m thrilled to only have one wire to charge everything. I won’t buy things that don’t use USB C. And if I do? I’ll convert them.

Barrel jacks have a lot going for them, but they are far from perfect themselves. What size is it? The OD is right but the ID is wrong. Polarity?

At least with USB C if I buy a good quality set of cables and a beefy charger, I can charge almost anything.

The data specifications are a whole other beast, but we’re talking power.
