    “Six months ago, this country was stone cold dead. We had a dead country. We had a country—people didn’t think it was going to survive, and you ask a nasty question like that,” Trump continued. “It’s called negotiation,” he added, before claiming he intentionally set China’s initial tariff at 145% to “go down a little bit.”

    The Trump format: say something asinine. Say it again but slightly dumber. Say it a thi—no never mind just the two is good I guess, wait actually say the third thing but start over and actually it’s something different this time. Insist that the person you’re talking to is “nasty” because you forgot what you were talking about. Say a fourth stupid thing.

    I get that this is funny. OTOH, thoughtless knee-jerk tarrifs are like shooting blindly into a crowd.
