I really need these articles to start specifying the TYPE of “AI” used.
Alt- text on that image says they employed radiocarbon dating as well as AI powered handwriting analysis to determine it may be 50-150 years older than previously thought. One of those I think was already used to determine the current estimate, and the other sounds like bullshit so probably not anything major coming out of this.
The machine learning handwriting analysis was used to disprove previous “vibe” based handwriting analysis that was used to “disprove” that the scrolls could be at the older end of what the radiocarbon dating suggested they could be.
Ars did a good write up on the findings a few weeks back.
