Depending on the version your instance is on that just may be a bug. You should still be subscribed.
Yeah, My instance is on 0.18, it’s probably some bug. So even if it says that I’m still subscribed normally? Nice!

I think the instance is beyond any means of “massively overloaded”. While we at Lemmy have like 4-5 big instances with a huge amount of smaller ones, there’s pretty much only kbin.social for kbin.
