It’s nice to know that there are people in Israel, even fairly high in the government, who are at least moderately, uh, anti-anti-Palestine.
It’d be a lot nicer if there wasn’t this whole “exterminate the Palestinians and live on their land” movement in the first place, though.
Yep, this pleasantly surprised me as well!
That’s the problem with those who only get their news on Israel from Al-Jazeera, Middle-East Monitor, or even more biased places. They only get exposed to “Israel bad” and never to the many Israelis that reject fascism and neocolonialism, be they protestors in the street or high-ranking politicians, members of the government or the army.
Many, many Israelis are sick of the entire settler movement (and I mean Jewish Israelis, we can assume the 20% of Arab Israelis oppose them per default), which they view as detrimental to Israel itself. They provoke conflict, bring only hate, require constant government supervision and protection at a high cost, often don’t serve in the army yet uses it as a shield and/or attack target…
Quick edit to address the 2nd part of the comment: These people exist in all countries, terrible as it is, it’s just that they usually don’t get an occasion to actually try acting on it. They usually just join their local far-right party and act racist towards whichever ethnicity their consider foreigners. But you can easily find them in places with conflict…
