The majority seems to agree that there is too much D&D in Dungeon World. For example, having attributes like Strength between 3 and 18 mostly adds complexity but little benefit. So everybody likes to hack Dungeon World: Chasing Adventure, Stonetop, World of Dungeons, Fellowship 2e, Homebrew World, …

Is any of those getting popular so we could have a modern „default Fantasy PbtA“?

My preferred PbtA for games featuring fantasy adventuring is Ironsworn. Don’t think it can be considered a DW hack as it doesn’t even have playbooks. And by default it it far from heroic fantasy. But there are heroic fantasy out there for Ironsworn to scratch that itch.

There are so many hacks that I think it makes it unlikely that any will emerge as the consensus default. Other hacks than the ones you mentioned: Unlimited Dungeons, Freebooters on the Frontier, Quest World, Maze World, etc.

@copacetic I love that there are a variety of different fantasy PbtA games and not one bland generic fantasy game. That way you end up with interesting games like Root, Band of Blades, and Ironsworn as you diverge further from Dungeon World.

My favorit is Mixed Adventures which I made myself (mixes aspects of other hacks).

If I was to choose besides my own, i would say Homebrew World which is the the one that has least rules.
