So theres a new streaming service on the block called kick its kind alike twitch but not? ive never really cared about those type of thing sbut someday i think i want to make gmaing content but idk, im not even sure what to do right now.
anyways what are you thoughts on twitch and kick? also feel free to add stuff too that you feel is needed.
Kick was made using the Twitch source code leak, so their backends are very similar. I’m not sure about Kick’s monitization, but if you’re doing them for fun, then it may not matter.
If you’re doing it for money, then using them for making footage for youtube may be a better strategy (double dipping kinda)
i would rather do it for fun and to giv eme goals/motivation to do things also maybe a tiny bit for money. i have a kinda low-end laptop and i hav ea bunch of fans blowing cold air all around me also family too, so idk if i should start or not?
Twitch is owned by Amazon. Kick is owned by Stake.com. Pick your poison.
Interresting, this domain is blocked in France for infrigment on gambling legislation…
Yea, it’s a crypto gambling site so that would make sense.
your right, but what in the world are we suppose to use then to watch/stream content?
Peertube. ;)
what actly is peertube? if i might ask…
The federated video platform. If Lemmy is Reddit, Peertube is YouTube.
Anyone know of instances allowing signups for uploading videos that enforce some content rules? I’ve been trying to find a place on peertube to host some of my favorite videos from reddit
I dont want to link people to a server hosting mostly nsfw or gore or something though. Since peertube is still underground its got some fringe groups
Self hosting is the way to go if you can do it. Most PeerTube instances are trash. Good ones are often specialized.
In addition to aforementioned PeerTube, there is Owncast. These two are neat if you want to do it for fun with a few people and are technically inclined. Otherwise for streaming YouTube is probably the better way to go. Kick is unproven at the moment and Twitch is… Twitch.
I heard Kick was infested with Nazis? Idk, i never heard of any mainstream streamers on there before XQC moved, and I’m not a juicer so, shrug
this is good to know
I don’t know if it’s Nazis specifically, but I’ve heard that initial rules were very loose and they still kind of are. So it sounds believable.
