Sounds like you expect a bar to never kick out annoying people because then the other customers didn’t get a chance to form their own opinion

No? Because a bar isn’t a good metaphor and people can be shitty and it’s really easy to see for yourself on the Internet

Why not? It’s easy to see for yourself in the bar too. You can just not listen, right?

??? Okay so then they are forming their own opinions…? Which is why it’s a shitty metaphor. I don’t get why you’re using a stupid ass metaphor anyway not I’m going to pretend this stupid ass conversation isn’t happening anymore

So you don’t understand the actual point of throwing out people who misbehave? You don’t see the crowd vote to throw out a hooligan, people are perfectly happy with bouncers throwing out assholes. Why do you think people want to see those assholes online? Why do you think people want to have to dig through 300 bad comments to find 10 good ones? Why do you think people want to individually block every single annoying account showing up in their replies?

Literally none of this conversation has been about banning people, it’s been about looking yourself what type of people on a lemmy instance are.
