As a reminder, in US law it’s generally illegal to set up deathtraps to catch people who could only get in the trap by breaking the law.

“You did something illegal!” is not, in general, a justification for murder.

I wonder if Abbott will insist that the judiciary has no authority over the 80% of the barrier that is actually on the Mexican side of the border?

He’ll simultaneously argue that the court doesn’t have jurisdiction outside the US, but also that as Governor of Texas he does somehow

I can agree with that. Punishments should be proportionate to the crime. Killing should only be done in self-defense as a last resort.

I keep getting the idea that the boarder bullshit is actually about distraction to make people think this is a country people want to move to. Most of the people trying to get to the US are fleeing disasters we made by manipulating and meddling in foreign politics. Meanwhile, it is a distraction from the complete decline of living standards due to right wing corruption and their parasitic billionaire funding. The USA has been in massive decline for 99% of the population over the last 50 years.

The global south is largely a terrible place because of the wealthy north. Especially the US. First they had to throw off their colonizers. Then they had to suffer the punishments of their former colonizers. Then the US took it upon themselves to attempt to overthrow every socialist leading government in the western hemisphere, elected or not, and replace them with a dictator. Then in the Western Hemisphere the US War on Drugs have made Mexico, Central, and South America a war zone run by cartels.

So yeah, much of the world is much worse to live in than the US. Mostly because of the US. Western Europe is still a far better place to live.

No need to personally attack that person just because you disagree with their point.

Y’know I was firmly opposed to these buoys until I found out how fun “Rio Grande Buoy Border Barrier” is to say. Now I’m in the fence.
