I personally use RealVNC though I don’t have the credentials to say for sure if its the most secure.
SSH
And if you need more than a console, use X forwarding through the ssh connection or Vnc (again through the ssh connection).
Alternative is something like guacamole (from apache incubator afaik), but then again, through ssh.
I’ve yet to try it myself, but I’ve heard good things about RustDesk.
