Going with a knitting post today! Any other keen sock knitters about? Feel free to show off your cozy feet and recommend good patterns!
I love knitting socks, they’re the best travel project and you can just get so many stunning sock yarns from indie dyers.
These beauties are the “Drippity Drop Socks” pattern by Kay F Jones which I was gifted by a very kind Instagram friend. The yarn was by Castle View Yarns, their Fear of the Dark colourway on a typical 75/25 merino/nylon base.
One thing I’ll say about this pattern is that the toe section was weird. Instead of just decreasing down each side which is what I’ve seen in basically every other cuff-down sock pattern, it had me decrease evenly around the whole toe so it has a slightly odd “bunched” feel. If I make this pattern again I’ll probably just do the toes the normal way tbh.
Other than that though, absolutely love them!
Those are gorgeous! That texture and color are perfect together. Beautiful work, I’m glad you posted them.
Currently I do variations of Rye and Rye Light from Tin Can Knits. So far I use sport weight 100% wool, and I’m planning to “run” the heels and ball of the toes on my current pair. I am in thick heavy and felted mode, I guess! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fKKLOUNOHU
Oh what I’ve never even heard of this technique before! Got some heels that are definitely looking on the thinner side these days so this could be a lifesaver, thank you for the link <3
Rye Light have been in my queue for…let’s just say a number of years lol. Sadly I don’t knit fast enough to keep up with all the pretty things but one day! Looks like a satisfyingly simple pattern to work on for sure.
And ikr, think I originally saw the yarn on Instagram when they were doing those virtual yarn festivals during lockdown, and I just sort of pointed at the screen and shouted “SOCKS!”
Rye Light is ridiculously simple, which is perfect for me for a travel project I can pick up and put down randomly. Very hard to lose track of your place and doesn’t require careful attention. The arch section ends up baggy on my foot, so eventually I will branch out into another basic pattern with a bit more shaping through the heel and arch. There is a pattern by Carol Feller that I’m considering.
