Enterprise network and security is where I spend most of my time and thought there may be others out there who want to commiserate with me.
Hello world!
Hey there. Network engineer here. Just joined Lemmy and when I saw this server had a networking sub figured it would be a good starting place. I spend a lot of time administrating firewalls, specifically Palo Altos. Know a little about a lot of things and currently responsible for everything networking at my current gig.
Woot! Welcome. Love this server. @TheDude is the man.
Senior engineer at a big US VoIP provider checking in. Been fairly active on r/networking.
Glad you’re here!
Hello. Work for an NSP so mostly do service provider network, although my current joy is automation (Salt)
How do you like Salt?
Love it. It can be a bit buggy at times, and there’s definitely a bit of a learning curve, but it’s powerful and have a great community.
I do platform ops and frankly whether its in my everyday life or work I despise networking. Yet its also probably the cause of the most interesting issues we run into so I guess I don’t hate it that much.Just frustrates the hell out of me.
I feel ya. I do it day and night - global ops for a Fortune company - me and my homie in Philly and two in Manila. We have meetings at 8am/pm - lol.
Man I getcha there. We have departments all over the world and within my team we have people in NL, UK US and AU timezones. Trying to get everyone into a meeting is a challenge
I’m more on the hobbyist side of things, but I interface with people who live in the enterprise networking and security world. And my Pi server might not exactly be a Cat9k, but I still get headaches when I need to learn how to fix whatever it is I broke most recently, which is frequently. I’ll gladly commiserate!
Awesome! Most recently, I’ve been battling with troubleshooting network fabrics that use software defined network paths… think SDWAN, CASB, etc. The networking world is a changing!
Data center architecture and engineering is my specialty. Big switches, fast ports, no L2 :)
