Hi Boost gang,
The first version of Boost for Lemmy is almost ready. If you want to test the app for bugs and give feedback before the app is published, follow this link https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.rubenmayayo.lemmy to enable an early access option on the Boost for Lemmy Play Store listing.
Thanks for your patience!
🎉🚀
Now that’s a seamless switch between platforms!
Ad-free already purchased!
How do I hide, or limit the height of images people embed into their comments such as this one, in Boost?
This image is huge for example, and ideally I just want a small version I can tap to expand, and not have to scroll past this whole thing (plus it seems like it’s cropped on the sides, only showing half a phone screen on either side - or maybe that’s the full image I don’t know?).
Thanks!!
That’s probably something Rubén needs to handle. I didn’t realize it would come out this huge lol. That’s why we’re bug testing this!
Wow, you’re right.
For comparison.

One feature that’d be nice to have is the ability to add other instances as guest accounts.
Quick question. I thought Reddit’s API price debacle (the entire reason I’m here instead) forced Boost for Reddit to shut down, or at the very least charge a high price. I’m surprised to see it still working. What exactly is going on?
Custom API keys
So what’s the effect of this?
API keys is what identifies the client/application. So basically, Reddit sees it as me using a personal custom app or script, and it’s therefore not blocked.
They didn’t shut down the API, they just made it prohibitively expensive to use. For most people, that falls into the free tier.
Babe wake up, Boost for Lemmy just dropped

How would you like us to report bugs? Create a post in the community?
You can reply to this post, or create a post in the community if it is a more detailed bug report. Whatever you want!
Can you explain the data collection usage on Google play store?
Yeah this honestly makes me hesitant to download idk why there are so many data sharing permissions. Maybe they’re default?
In my experience veta aps usually have more, to collect statistics, crashes, and things like that. Once tha app is stable usually It need less collecting but I can be wrong to
I just installed the app and so far it’s working pretty well, though if I’m being honest, I am definitely a little concerned by all the baked-in tracking.
In terms of features I’d be interested in seeing there are three that come to mind:
- Community icons in compact/ dense views. While Lemmy is still in its infancy, I have to browse c/All most of the time and being able to visually see the community the post is coming for is definitely helpful for browsing.
- Multiple accounts in one feed. In my opinion, this is one thing that Lift-off has over every different Lemmy app. With so many instances with varying levels of federation, I find being able to browse all my accounts at once to be a very convenient feature.
- Being able to download to an SD card. I know SD cards are a dying breed, so this is probably low priority for you, but as someone with very low internal storage; but a very large SD card, it’s always a welcome feature when I can find it.
Overall I would say this app already shows a significant amount of polish. Hopefully the development can continue even further.
Random NSFW isn’t working…
Or so I’ve heard…
I think that was a reddit specific function.
Sync for lemmy has it working
I can’t even find the button for this… haha
Advanced settings>search. Or so I’ve heard.
Funny, but true…or so I’ve heard
Let’s go! 🚀
Same! I paid for the app as soon as I got it installed. I used Boost for reddit for years and loved it. It looks great so far!
It’s gorgeous. Just as I remember. Like it was never taken from us. I was trying out a couple other apps while waiting for the beta and I immediately uninstalled both of those and removed ads for Boost. It’s a really well designed app in all aspects. Thanks Rubén!
Yeah me too!!!
Does buying ad free disable usage data sharing with the ad networks?
Great question! I’d love to know this as well
I don’t know but am curious–honestly I bought the app just to support the developer.
Thanks for all the hard work!

Can’t login due to 2FA!
Other than that…the fact that I was able to export my Boost For Reddit settings and import them for Lemmy is just perfect 🥹🥹🥹
Oh! and now we get picture previews in the comments! Hooray!
The absolute madman…to not have to start over on settings, legend!
Woah excellent idea!
@[email protected] any issues (present or future) that could come up doing this?

Hello :) I love it so much! Haven’t realised how much I missed this interface!
Ist there any chance to integrate mod-tools
Its so nice to have Boost back! Thanks so much for all your hard work, Im so very appreciative!
Btw, brand new comments are showing as 9 hours old, my own included. I’m in Japan, on a Samsung S23, let me know if there is any debug info I can give.
Thanks again!
There was a problem with timezones missing when formatting the time. Fixed for the next beta, thanks for reporting!
Thank you so much!! For everything! For making this app for reddit, and then remaking it for here, and for taking the time to see my comment, and fixing the issue! I am so very appreciative of all the work you’ve put into it, I can’t imagine how involved a project like this must be. You’ve done such a great job. It is so nice to be back on Boost again!
This comment might get swallowed up. Comment in a bug or make your own post to get more attention :)
Just downloaded it and I am honestly so happy
Another post on here said it feels like home
And it really does and I love it so much
I feel like now lemmy can 100% fill the void that reddit left
I’ll let you know how it works once I can log in. Right now, TOTP doesn’t seem to be supported so there’s no way for me to complete authentication.
That’s weird. I have 2FA (it always prompts on the website) but I was able to log in without putting in my token (unless my 1password autofill automatically took it behind that scenes?)
I’m not sure, I use Bitwarden and did an auto-fill, and also got the missing totp token error message sadly.
There was a bug showing the totp field. Fixed for the next beta.
I saw on another comment you left. I appreciate your effort developing Boost into a Lemmy client so I’ll be nice and patient in the meantime.
