Rishi Sunak’s popularity has sunk to its lowest ever level after the prime minister scrapped a series of climate pledges.
The prime minister’s net favourability rating has plunged to a record -45, according to a YouGov poll carried out in the days after his speech on net zero policy.
The poll, conducted on 21 and 22 September, shows 68 per cent of voters have a negative view of Mr Sunak, up from 67 per cent in late August.
By comparison just 23 per cent now have a positive view, down from 26 per cent at the last poll.
It comes after research by another pollster, Survation, found that large majorities of voters support climate action – especially in so-called “Blue Wall” seats Mr Sunak wants to hang on to at the next election.
The latest YouGov poll looking at Mr Sunak’s popularity found that the PM’s popularity has taken a particular hit among Lib Dems voters who the Tories are competing for in these marginal seats.
Perhaps he’s deliberately trying to wreck the Tory party? If so, good luck to him.
Deliberately trying to burn the house down on the way out more likely
Stripping the copper wiring and trying to sell the garden to property developers.
There is credible statements imo being made that the Tories are deliberately damaging the country now to stop Labour looking good when they take over.
I don’t think he’s in it for party or country, I think he’s in it for himself, his family and their connections. It seems like every move he makes is one that’s going to benefit their little business empire and he’s making a rush job of it because he knows he’s only go a year left and Tories won’t get in next election.
It definitely has a last days of Rome vibe to it - the rich filling their carts with whatever they can grab as the barbarians hammer at the gate.
I’d hope that an incoming Labour administration sweeps away all this nonsense that the Tories are shovelling out but.they’ve already said they won’t overturn the oil deals, so I am not getting my hopes up.
Imagine holding onto one seat by less than 500 votes over a complete non-issue, and thinking “wtf, the proles hate the environment now!”
Got nothing to do with that, I’m afraid. He knows they’ll lose then next election. There’s nothing to do now but accept favours (present and future) from wealthy donors to leave behind a legacy of rules that favour them all.
He’s setting fire to the sinking ship, in an effort to warm the upper decks.
Yikes 😬. Cursed to be John Major for the rest of his days.
John Major actually managed to govern reasonably competently.
Sunak’s main selling point is simply that he’s not actively trying to destroy the country, most days. I mean, yes that’s a huge step up from Johnson & Truss, but…

No no. He started with a balanced budget that then blew up. He did cut the deficit before resigning but it was still large.
To be fair, far too much credit and blame is assigned to govornments for a number that is massively driven by externalities.
Good.
Looks like somebody is on a billionaire’s.
