When a conservative in the tribal loyalist mode views you as part of their ingroup, they cannot comprehend why you’d do anything besides seek greater connection within the tribe. You don’t have to put up with those lesser outsiders. You are invited to the inner ring. What’s wrong with you, if you won’t accept? There must be some underlying betrayal.
