Sup lemmy?!

Here’s how my board has been looking lately. It’s turning out wonderfully and the Freeze was a perfect addition for me. I play around with lots of different styles, and this one is perfect both as a practice tool and for drone-y stuff. The EV30 is plugged into the Afterneath and the RE-202. Still getting used to getting the presets but I’m enjoying it quite a bit so far.

The Freeze is like a very short and super smooth looper- it will latch on to whatever sound you’re playing and sustain that note indefinitely. You can use it to hold a note/chord while you can play over top of it. I have mine set up in between my dirt pedals and modulation, so after I lock in a sound I can still modify it and add some movement as it drones along.

I bought the RE-202 about a week after its release. I’ve spent a lot of time with it but there’s so much to explore with it still. I love how it feels trashy and classy at the same time, mostly due to the character of the spring reverb. I dig it quite a bit and will never be selling this one.

You may be better off with something else if panning control is required, but I wouldn’t know what to recommend. I think the stereo effect if mostly felt with the reverb or while using multiple tape heads. I don’t think it has a way to control panning.

Yeah the main options I’ve been considering are the RE-202 (no true panning), the DM-101 (no stereo input, expensive), EQD Avalanche Run (not sure if any more will become available and I think only the Reverb effect is stereo), Strymon Volante (seems probably the closest but pricey and I think in spite of stereo in it actually sums to mono internally in some cases), Strymon El Capistan (not as flexible tape head configurations as RE-202 or Volante, also reportedly does sum to mono internally in some cases). Honestly I should probably just relax on the stereo bit, as I don’t actually have a stereo rig right now. I just have a stereo chorus before my delay and a stereo trem after (and I think after starting to research the chorus is really wet/dry “stereo” rather than left/right stereo).

It’s a tough call for sure, all of those options seem really nice. Did they discontinue the avalanche run? I’m sure you’ll come to the right decision, don’t rush it. FWIW I do rely more on the modulation for panning but your uses may be different than mine. The delay is like a cozy little bed for dirt nasty riffs most of the time, with the odd self oscillation thrown in.

The main thing I wanted was a footswitch for self-oscillation. I have a Danelectro Dan-echo, which is good at all the features it has. But with having stereo pedals on either side of the delay in my chain I just went down a rabbit hole on stereo delays for the principle of it.

I don’t think the Avalanche Run is officially discontinued, but Sweetwater lists it as

                Temporarily Out of Stock
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Earthquaker Devices are currently experiencing manufacturing delays on this item. Please contact us to discuss product alternative

If it were in stock, I would get it as I think it comes closest to being what I originally wanted with stereo in/out added, rather than a stereo in/out pedal that has what I wanted.

@baronvonj @Cellblend I just built an analog delay pedal and added a momentary switch to it that essentially opens to infinite repeats when the switch is pressed, and returns to the normal settings when you lift your foot. Sounds great on the test board, I’ll be boxing up this week

Ah I see. It’s so easy to get carried away with an idea with these things haha. Hopefully they’ll be able to make more, sounds like they’re trying. Kinda funny though, delays on a delay lol. At least it gives you more time to ponder and enjoy the Danelectro.
