What app are you using in the meantime? I’ve tested Jeroba, Liftoff and now Connect which I feel is the closest in layout and feel to Sync.

Really looking forward to Sync! 🙂

I’ve found Connect as well maybe the most useable client at the moment. it was just a pleasant addition it kinda feels like stripped down version of Sync :P I think I’ll stick with Connect for a while. the other clients I just didn’t like. for instance, Jeroba was an instant uninstall for me.

My thoughts exactly, Connect is the most Sync like.

I also uninstalled Jeroba as it lacked polish and kept logging me out.

I’m using connect as well, seems good up to now. Also tried jeroboam, had issues logging in, told me lemmy.world wasn’t up-to-date. Seemed like to much messing around to get up and running so uninstall. Connect hasn’t given me any issue as of yet, though only a few days. So I’ll wait and see till sync is ready

I’m using Connect as well, so far it’s quite ok. Simple enough to browse everything and quite intuitive.

Thank you for the recommendation. I was using jerboa and it’s not as good as sync was. Connect is pretty close. I can’t wait for sync.

well, saying close is a far stretch 😄, but really is the best client compared to the others IMO

For Android (some of the ones in the list are cross-platform) I know of these:

    • Jerboa - Android, open source
    • Thunder - Cross-platform, open source
    • Summit - Android, closed source
    • Connect Android, closed source
    • Lemmotif - Android, closed source
    • Memmy - Cross-platform, open source (need to build it yourself for Android)
    • Liftoff - Cross-platform, open source
    • Wefwef - Cross-platform (PWA), open source

Wefwef, it’s a progressive web app. It’s pretty simple but gets the job done until Sync is ready.

I’ve tried them all on my Android phone, and to me wefwef seems to be the most “complete” of the bunch.

Very good recommendation - I’m still looking very much forward to Sync!

I think wefwef is close to how I personally had sync set up in the past. Looking forward to the new sync of course though. Wefwef lacks hyper customization, but it has a solid layout and feel.

I took your advice and I’m glad I did. Seems like a good place to get familiar with Lemmy before sync returns. I recommend everyone tries this

Seconding this. Layout is reasonably similar, as are the swipe actions. A compact mode similar to the sync list view also was just added.

So far in iOS I’m testing Liftoff, Memmy, and Mlem. Liftoff feels the most stable and reliable in terms of loading posts/comments. I love Memmy’s UI, and have had the poorest experience with loading/UI in Mlem. Just added Wefwef to my home screen after reading comments here and I’m looking forward to giving it a go.

I should mention that Apollo was my main Reddit app. I only discovered Sync a few days ago when I migrated to Lemmy so I never got too familiar with the interface… I’m certainly looking forward to trying it out!

I’ve been trying out the same ones as you, haven’t heard of wefwef so I’ll give that a try. Although I think liftoff is my least favorite. Memmy seems to have the best performance for me. I also really like Thunder, definitely recommend trying that one out if you haven’t

I also downloaded Thunder and tried to reply to your comment… but it looks like my reply was eaten 😕

It’s still early days for all of there apps, there will be countless bug fixes and improvements over the coming months. I’m glad we have such a variety of options to choose from!

Agreed! I’m replying to you from wefwef right now and I’m liking it a lot, reminds me of apollo a bit

I’m currently trying out about four different Reddit apps before Sync becomes available. One thing I found is that after the big migration, and the servers now have a chance to breathe, the apps all work a lot better than they did when I first installed them.

That being said, Connect seems to be rising to the top as far as apps go. After some slight tweaking to the settings, I’ve got it working almost identical to how Sync worked. It’s not perfect, but it’s getting the job done very well.

Interesting, I’m experiencing no lag with Connect. Will check out Thunder.

Kind of interesting seeing this race of lemmy app development but I hope LJ takes his time to put out an app with a higher level of polish.

I have read somewhere that somebody could manage to make lemmy work like the reddit api. So they theoretically change it in the old reddit third party apps.

I would love to see infinity in the race. Loved it.
