Picked up and older but excellent condition Giant Reign for my son - was a seriously expensive bike in its day, so it has fully adjustable everything.
I stripped down the rear shock to get some rust kill on the spring - no issues there. But, I wanted to reset the rates to stock. Stupidly, I backed the rebound damping adjuster all the way out - it’s popped off whatever ratchet it was on in there, and the damping is now stuck at full. I can get the adjuster back in, but it’s not reengaging with whatever it’s supposed to.
Usually when I break shit, YouTube has the answer. Not this time! Any tips from the experts?!
…a little. It sounds expensive.
Without specifying what shock and the likely year (photos?) your not getting anywhere. Is it a coil or air compression system (if it’s air, the damping adjuster is probably embedded in the next time wall?)
It appears to be a Rockshox Vivid 5.1. No idea what year - I’d guess 10 years old perhaps. I’m a motorbike guy, so couldn’t tell you what kind of suspension it is! Spring with hydraulic, has an air valve as well.
Will see if I can figure out how to add pics…
It’s this guy that is not playing ball
Maybe have a look at this https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/service-manuals/rockshox/rear-suspension/gen0000000004712-rev-a-vivid-service-manual-english.pdf
I suppose you may get more traction (ha!) with the MTB community, too. Haven’t seen a bike wrench one yet, but I learned a bit from them (am n00b, I’m basically too scared to service MTB suspension but hope to tear apart my dropper soon when I get the silly parts it needs).
Fiddly little things aren’t they?
Haha, yes indeed. Shock, horror: I’ve reached out to the MTB community on Reddit (yes, I felt dirty) to see if they can help. Failing that, off to the shop
r/MTB may not be of quite a much help as r/bikewrench so I would consider giving that a shot, too
Yep, r/bikewrench is better if c/MTB doesn’t help. Using r/MTB is only going to get you distracted with jumps
Nice, didn’t know about that one. Cheers
I lost you after the first sentence, so it’s nothing I can help with. The only person I’ve heard mention cycling is @[email protected] and that was road bikes but maybe they have experience with mountain bikes?
Another option would be to take it to a bike shop and ask!

Haha, yes that’s the last resort! I am fundamentally a cheapskate, so if there’s a chance I can fix or build something myself, I’m totally headed down that path lol
