What a blast! The animation is so fluid it’s crazy. I liked the first one, but this one is even more impressive.
Also unexpectedly mature for such a movie.
Definitely a solid movie, can’t wait for the next one.

Perhaps an unpoppular opinion: I prefer the first one. It was such a tight and impactful story. The second one was full of marvelous animation, but to me it felt like the story was sometimes downing in the beautiful pictures.
I suspect the second will feel improved when the third comes out to finish the conclusion. It’s hard to end a movie on a cliffhanger like that.
I do agree with you, though. I like the first one better and it does feel like a tighter story. Also an amazing opening sequence that just pulls you right into the world (and is a great home audio test).
But I have no doubt that when I see the third film I’ll likely appreciate the second more.
I love both movies, but I also think the first one is better. The second movie is bigger with a lot more beautiful art styles and animation. But it’s standing on the shoulders of a giant. Into the Spiderverse is so incredible on its own. I can and have rewatched it multiple times. Anyone can watch it have a good time. The story is so well told that it’s great for Spider-man fans and those who aren’t. It’s inspiring animation films to utilize a similar comic book at style. For me, the first film edges out the second one.
Yeah, the first one was a masterpiece in timing, and balance between story/action/comedy. This second one was great, I really enjoyed it, but the action scenes and the story development scenes both dragged on a little too long. Like did they need to have the meeting with the school councilor? I feel like they already covered a lot of those same points in his Dad’s party.
There were a lot of laughs, but the laugh-per-minute ratio was lower mostly I think because the movie was longer.
Anyways, still very very enjoyable, but yeah I totally agree the first one is superior
I need to rewatch the second one. The ending left a super bad impression on me and I wasn’t in the right head space to enjoy it because of that.
Details of the ending
I saw the twist coming from a mile away. The computer locked onto Mile already, I thought it was obvious. The movie was just starting to get really really good as well. And the ending just draaaaaged on.
Also, hearing the horror stories from the studio after this one I doubt they’ll get the third out in a reasonable amount of time (originally they said mid 2024 or something). The gist is that a lot of the higher ups (director or producer, I don’t remember) want to edit and make decisions on fully animated scenes which means a lot of work gets wasted when you want to change things.
I loved it too. ITSV is one of my favorite movies of all time and I think it’s partially because I went into it completely blind. I hadn’t seen any trailers and knew nothing about the story. I did the same for ATSV and it was even better the second time around.
Highly recommended for any future moviegoing experience.

I really enjoyed it, but on first viewing remember feeling that there’s so much to wrap up, and not much time left. It almost made me uneasy and stressed because I didn’t want it to end with magically everything being resolved in the last 5 minutes. Maybe I missed it in the promotional material, but I think had I known that it ends with a To Be Continued, I’d maybe enjoy it a bit more? That’s my only nitpick with it, which says a lot about how good of a film it is.
Same here. I was pissed when it ended with a TBC. I didn’t realize it was a two-parter.
“Across the…” was originally supposed to be called “Part 1”. The third film (“Beyond the…”) was supposed to be “Across the… part 2”, at least that’s how they were originally announced.
The animation and visuals were amazing no question. But I feel like I’m getting old because my eyes couldn’t keep up at times with how spastic and jerky the scenes were. A lot of scenes were so quick that you couldn’t even appreciate the beauty and technicality of the shot because it was literally a split second. Other times so much was happening I couldn’t concentrate on the scene, like the first fight scenes with the Spot where it was difficult to see how exactly they were fighting.
I don’t remember feeling the same way with the first one. No issues whatsoever with everything else other than the weird sound mix that drowned out the dialogue. I agree that it’s definitely an excellent film.
Maybe I just need to rewatch it earlier in the day when my eyes aren’t tired from work yet.
I get the same with the Transformers movies, half the time I was sitting there saying “I have no idea what’s going on here”
Was incredible. After this, returning to the furst movie was interesting . They really upped the ante in terms of length and character depth -gwen especially. Didnt realize how streamlined Gwens role was in the first movie. Across the Spiderverse fleshes her out so thoroughly… I think it is a rare sequel that improves the first movie retroactively.

I love it!
I definitely enjoyed it, but I found it tiring to watch at times, not only did I have to concentrate on all the motion during the expansive fight and traversal scenes but during that time the characters didn’t shut up!
So much chat and quips with intense action, it got hard to really follow at times.
It is so well crafted. I love pausing on random frames because each frame is an awesome work of art—especially explosions and action scenes!
I hated the non ending and regretted going. I paid for a movie, not half of a movie. I am putting it out of my mind until #2 comes out.
