I’ve heard a few people say that they don’t use reddit apps anymore and only access reddit via old.reddit. Could someone explain to me how that resolves the “morality issue”? Isn’t that still traffic and aren’t they still getting money? Is it less money somehow?
I don’t think there’s necessarily a “morality issue” with accessing Reddit.
Old Reddit has far less tracking and there’s still a trove of UGC on Reddit that even if the fediverse picks up steam, will still be important for a lot of time to come.
The morality issue here really is one piece of shit giving himself the authority to dictate so much knowledge. In some ways I see this as a modern book burning shit Spez is doing.
If you need access to Reddit, minimizing how much tracking and ads they can show you goes a long way of destroying that company.
I suppose if you use old Reddit and block ads they’re not making money directly but it’s still traffic.
I always used old Reddit anyway, I left because it turned to shit not because of a particular app.
After want they did to my boys (3PA), I said fuck even old Reddit. Unless I need to check one specific niche sub, which won’t be very frequent, and mostly to copy information to Lemmy, I’m not giving them any traffic.
When I accidently open Reddit links here, it still defaults to baconreader, then I just back out to Jerboa.
