Over 100 Israelis have died and more than 900 were injured after rockets were fired from Gaza by Hamas militants, Israeli officials said Saturday.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 198 were killed in Gaza and at least 1,610 were injured Saturday in retaliatory attacks from Israel.

“We are at war. We will win,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday.

The Israeli Defense Forces earlier declared “a state of alert for war,” according to a statement issued by the IDF.

“Over the past hour, the Hamas terrorist organization launched massive barrages of rockets from Gaza into Israel, and its terrorist operatives have infiltrated into Israel in a number of different locations in the south,” the IDF said early Saturday.

Are you trying to justify Hamas’s terrorist actions?

It’s a pretty straightforward yes or no question. You either support the acts that Hamas committed in the past several hours or you don’t.

I don’t support or condone it at all. But with how they’ve been treated for decades I’m just not surprised.

Let me ask you a basic question. Israel has tried on many occasions over the span of decades to pursue peace. They tried a dozen peace proposals, they were all rejected. They tried setting up negotiations talks, they were rejected. They tried establishing diplomatic channels for communication, they were rejected. Every time Israel gives them the benefit of the doubt and loosens restrictions, they run around massacring civilians just like they did yesterday. Every single time, the Palestinians, and especially Hamas, chose to wage war, resort to terrorism, and double down on the idea of genociding or exiling the Jews, destroying the state of Israel, and establishing a theocratic Palestine that’s ruled by sharia. They refuse to talk, they refuse to come up with their own proposals, they refuse peace, and they are hell bent on destroying Israel. How is Israel supposed to work with them? What are they supposed to? If you were in their place, what would you do?

This is an armed conflict, both sides use violence. One side is a state with a military, and the other an armed rebel group. Calling one side terrorists is a stupid reduction of the situation.

What you’re doing here is a stupid reduction. Hamas is not a rebel group, they’re a terrorist organization no different than ISIS or Al Qaeda. Hamas invafrd towns, then went from house to house murdering families and kidnapping random people on the streets, then stripped the corpses naked (even of the elderly and little kids), then dragged the corpses around in trucks to celebrate the murders in front of civilians. We’ve seen plenty of armed rebel groups before, but they don’t look like this. Hamas is a terrorist group. Stop trying to justify their vile actions

https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB123275572295011847 If they are so morally abhorrent then why did Israel prefer them over the PLO?

Hostage taking is a sensible strategy to gain leverage. Israel is going to respond to this, and having hostages means that Hamas can negotiate and try to mitigate the worst excesses.

Again referring to my first comment, Israel left Palestine with no other avenue of resistance. If Israel wanted a peaceful solution, they had 60 years to get it. Instead they chose violence, so please don’t start crying when the violence starts.

I’m not condoning Hamas morally, I’m saying that this reaction was to be expected.

I can’t read the article, it’s paywalled. Post the contents of the article.

Hostage taking is a sensible strategy to gain leverage.

Do you even hear yourself? Taking hostages is NEVER a sensible strategy. That’s fucking terrorism.

Israel is going to respond to this, and having hostages means that Hamas can negotiate and try to mitigate the worst excesses.

If Hamas didn’t to feel the wrath of Israel they wouldn’t have invaded, bombed civilian targets, murdered families, paraded around with their naked corpses, or kidnapped hostages. The reality is they don’t care. They want Israel to respond with force so they’ll kill the hostages and spur up hatred on both sides, which keeps them in power.

Again referring to my first comment, Israel left Palestine with no other avenue of resistance. If Israel wanted a peaceful solution, they had 60 years to get. Instead they chose violence, so please don’t start crying when the violence starts.

Seriously dude, what planet are you on? Israel has tried EVERYTHING to get a peaceful resolution to this conflict. Yeah poor Hamas, he had no choice but to murder civilians

Hamas sets up military operations in a civilian building by force - the civilians have no say in this and get killed if they protest Hamas then uses that building to launch rockets, store ammunition, communication stations How the fuck should Israel proceed to neutralize those sites? Because what they do is:

“Roof knocking”: Hitting the building’s roof with a small explosive to announce that it will fall in 15 minutes (see video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teevWpXlRZY example from yesterday) Automatic SMS and phone calls impacted areas warning and urging to evacuate Precision strikes that make the building fall vertically with minimal damage to the areas As a result, civilians (and potentially military personnel) are given a chance to evacuate while ammunition stashes, rocket launching stations etc stay in the building and are destroyed.

To be honest, I’m shocked those protocols are still used after Hamas’s attack. I would absolutely not be surprised of these measures stopped.

The anti-Israel don’t care that Israel is bending over backwards to minimize human suffering while fighting a decades long war against people who are deliberately trying to kill their children.

Remember how upset they are when Israel does something 100 percent defensive, like build a security fence to keep out an endless stream of suicide bombers?

      This isn’t good-faith criticism.

These people hate Israel for this that they works be applauding other countries for. And we all know why

It’s a violent revolution to extinction. All the more political capital for the Netanyahu government to rapidly encroach.
