Someone please educate me here… Are shows of force like this really effective? Everyone knows that the US isn’t going to participate in this thing directly, right?

It’s a show of force to dissuade anyone like Iran (active in Syria right now) from getting any silly ideas. Beyond that I don’t think the US will step foot there, nor does Israel need their help to crush the Hamas terrorists.

It’s a deterrent for Iran or other countries that might think they can hop in while Israel is weak

If you missed the memo, it’s the 50th aniversary of the yom kippur war, which started in a surprise attack from the arabs lol

We’re definitely not the same country. The US is more like an overseas subservient territory to Israel.

Israel is to the US and the US is to Puerto Rico.

Ahh so israel is the big boss? No wonder reading the end titles of a movie is like reading a phonebook from tel aviv😉

Ha, you think we need an excuse in the US to attack? We most likely won’t do anything right now, but it’s just some political grandstanding.

God, please use an ounce of independent thought and don’t just internalize the first thing you read.

Americans were killed in this attack, and the US gives Israel absolute support. There is absolutely zero need to fish for an excuse to attack Gaza.

It’s probably to send a signal to Iran to not get any ideas of getting further involved and lend some support to Israel. Not everything has to be a conspiracy.

The idea of this being some sort of trap/tripwire for Hamas is bizarre. It’s pretty damn easy to not fire on US warships, and doing so might be the biggest strategic blunder you could make

Regardless it’s also a hotbed of conflict that could easily start spiraling into the rest of the region. A carrier group just offshore can keep an eye on the situation and make sure Iran doesn’t get any crazy ideas
