I don’t know why but recently, within the last month or so, my Linux install has been encountering a LOT of problems related to Mesa drivers, Steam, Proton/Vulkan.

I’m using Linux Mint 21 (every package is up to date and no, I don’t feel like switching distros although Ubuntu based (.deb) packages seem to be sucking a lot more recently than usual)

Using the Steam Flatpak (the system package also has the same issues of not working)

My drivers are up to date on all hardware, including my Nvidia card (I use Nvidia, sue me)

I’ve gone through every possible solution to fix my Steam problems but every update seems to break stuff even more

I’ve been reading more and more posts on here, on GitHub, and on the Linux Mint forums about Steam Linux not working, Proton compatible games not working, etc

I’m glad I kept my dual boot. This stuff is to difficult, to annoying, and is a worse experience than a year ago in my honest opinion (I know I’ll get some hate for it but I’m just trying to give some genuinely criticisms).

I can’t do it anymore. I love Linux, I love the concept and principle behind it. I even enjoy most of the community (that isn’t toxic, aggressive, or gatekeepy). My experience with Linux in a work environment has been great in fact. I use Linux Mint for work, doing help desk, accounting, asset management, office work, etc. But for personal use and gaming, it’s been worse than ever in my opinion. At least in Linux Mint and it seems that people on other distros (Ubuntu / Debian based) are having issues and it’s been rough.

Any advice? or ideas on how to tackle some of the problems?
