My family is split on this. Overall I think it’s more of a bad thing that really only benefits the big hotel chains. Has this new law affected anyone here negatively or postively?

Thank you for giving me some actual insight to how this is affecting local people in hawaii. I know people have strong feelings but i wanted to hear more on a personal level.
So most of my family has moved to the mainland and my mom is now retired and wants to do longer trips to visit all the kids and grandkids and travel the world a little. With the new airbnb law she can’t rent out her house now to help supplement her income so she can afford those trips.
I know there are those property hoarder types that people associate this new airbnb law with helping to crack down on. But it doesn’t seem like this would affect them much at all. They don’t live in those houses so they can just rent them out for longer to get around the law.
Thats what I’ve largely seen. I know a family that has around 10 condos on the west side, and its not like he’s selling them because he can’t airbnb them. I have a couple friends getting evicted rn, and they both work, but like, they want to increase the rent like 50%.
Still lucky we live hawaii.
(edit: just to be clear, not getting evicted by the fam with condos. just making the point that the airbnb ban has done nothing to impacts rents)
