Emmer, who right now is in the number three spot in House leadership as majority whip, is making a bid to be the next speaker of the U.S. House, a source close to Emmer has confirmed.

Rep. Tom Emmer has officially announced his intentions to become the next U.S. House speaker following the unprecedented removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy earlier this month.

On Saturday morning, Emmer tweeted that he would be running for the position “to bring our conference together and get back to work.”

Emmer went on to say that, in the last 10 months with a Republican majority in the House, “our Conference has shown what we can accomplish when we come together as a team. … Our conference remains at a crossroads and the deck is stacked against us. We have no choice but to fight like hell to hold on to our House Majority and deliver on our conservative agenda.”

    Former President Donald Trump privately conveyed to allies on Friday he does not back House Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s bid for speaker, throwing another wrench into an already chaotic process to find the next person to hold the gavel,” Politico reports.

    “A sustained offensive from Trump, if one materializes, could spell doom, as any candidate for the job can only afford to lose a handful of votes.”

    Emmer’s sin was to vote to certify the 2020 Presidental election.

        I mean, that was the reason 8 GOP’ers ironically voted with Democrats to oust McCarthy as speaker, and Emmer was not one of them.
