A surprise to be sure. But a welcome one.

I wonder if they will do Jedi Knight next. Rumors were that its source code has been lost for quite a while.

Although, open source engines for both seem to be doing quite well and there have been some very impressive enhancement mods for Jedi Knight.

JK1 really needs some work as it’s janky on Windows 7&10 and doesn’t scale it’s HUD so don’t go higher than 1080p (and even then bring out your magnifying glass).

Also there’s this stupid thing where in order to get Force points for powers to unlock you need to find secret areas. Id like that patched out and just do it like JK Academy.

I’m guessing it’s going to be similar to System Shock, Turok, or the other 90s Doom clone remakes they’ve done. If you like those, you’ll probably like this. If you don’t think those had anything going for them, you probably won’t like this.

I’m honestly not sure which camp I fall into.

Hard to say for sure without any gameplay screenshots, but:

“allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120FPS. New and returning players will enjoy Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster’s upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads”

So I would expect something that’s definitely an upgrade over the vanilla version in terms of compatibility and basic visual fidelity, but nothing much beyond that. (And, for the record, I think that’s fine?)
