I’m totally cool with the federation with lemmyNSFW instance and actually I made an account over there so I could subscribe to my favorite porn subs.
But, I’d also prefer to keep it separate from my lemmy.ca account feed. I don’t like to use the block nsfw option in my profile because NSFW isn’t just sexual content/porn. So basically, it would be awesome if there were a way to optionally block the entire instance on an account level, or optionally just not have posts from lemmyNSFW show up in All & Local. Communities are rapidly being created and I’ll never keep up blocking them one by one. I know not everyone likes to keep things separate and that’s why I’m wondering if this can be an option in a future update.
yes, I agree, it’s annoying for users who don’t want to see that stuff to have to manually block all the communities.
hopefully user-based instance blocking will become a thing.
Can’t you just block the instance from your profile?

I’ve resorted to turning off NSFW in my profile as well. I’m not anti-porn, I just don’t like it saturating my social newsfeed.
Happy that user based instance blocking is being worked on. I’m sure it would be controversial to unfederate with NSFW instances totally.
Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying
Question: if I got myself banned from the NSFW instance, would it still show up in my feed, and just prevent me from posting there?
that’s a good question, i’m not 100% sure. I’m guessing that you’re correct, in that it would still show in your feed but you couldn’t post there?
I like this approach. NSFW shouldn’t show up in /all for lemmy.ca, but we absolutely shouldn’t defederate from that instance. They are providing an important service
Yeah I’ve been blocking each individual community as it pops up on my feed which feels like whack-a-mole
I can’t remember where I saw this, but it’s working for me:
- open the browser extension uBlock Origin’s dashboard (highly recommended if you don’t have it installed in your browser yet),
- select “My filters” at the top,
- add the following to the bottom:
! 2023-06-23 https://lemmy.ca
lemmy.ca##.post-listing:has-text(@lemmynsfw.com)
lemmy.ca##.post-listing:has-text(@feddit.de)
adding more lines with any domains you don’t want to see anymore.
- select “Apply changes” near the top left.
i agree with this. would also block country/foreign language instances I’m unable to engage with. For now I’ve blocked individual communities and NSFW. The NSFW block works for me but blocking communities instead of an instance is inefficient.
One of the most controversial things Reddit did was hiding porn from r/all, this doesn’t seem like a good idea. I feel like blurring it or something would be a better option (which probably isn’t possible now?)
