Because it tastes really good
And it’s easy to eat, even if you’re sick.
I was under the impression that the chicken has only been eaten over hundreds of years rather than thousands. They come originally from the forests of India.
The problem with referencing ancient texts is that terminology has changed over time. Until a few hundred years ago, the word Apple referred to really any fruit. The fruit we call apple now comes from the new world, so any ancient references are not to it (including in the Bible).
According to Wikipedia, chicken (as in, specifically gallus domesticus) has been eaten in SE Asia for ~8,000 years, China and India for ~5000 years, the Middle East for ~4,000 years, Europe for ~2000 years, Africa for ~1900 years, and may have even (barely) made it to the Americas before the Columbian Exchange via the Polynesians.
Luckily, we don’t have to limit ourselves to referencing ancient texts; we can do carbon dating and genetic testing on the chicken bones folks threw away.
I was under the impression it was thailand/ vietnam not india
