Whats a popular movie that you really dont like? And whats a little known or widely hated film that you love? Although there are bits of Saving Private Ryan that I really love (obviously the landing scene) I can never get past the plot. I just find it so outrageously dumb that so many people would sacrifice their life for one random guy. Whenever I mention the movie Dredd, people always think that Im talking about the Stallone movie. Dredd starring Karl Urban is an absolute masterpiece, but no one I know has ever heard of it.
Overrated: High School Musical. A lot of my generation is very nostalgic for it, but I rewatched it yesterday and hated it. Disney TV movies are wildly overacted, and this is the finest example.
Underrated: The Platform. Its a Spanish (as in from Spain, but its also entirely in spanish) indie film about a society that allows people to serve jail sentences or debts in a special prison with an uncountable amount of floors, and food is served via a platform that takes a pile of food all the way to the bottom floors. Its a fascinating movie, and a treat if you speak spanish.
I think from dusk till dawn is a dumb movie and I catch all sorts of shit for that. Also snow piercer, That I think is even dumber.
Oh yeah, From Dusk Till Dawn is an outrageously stupid movie. Is it really entertaining and fascinating to watch because of that? Yes.
Overrated: Before Sunrise (1995) - tedious and self-indulgent. I would rather have seen the play about the cow.
Underrated: After Hours (1985) - One of Scorsese’s absolute best. Nightmarish, out-of-control, pitch-black comedy.
Did you mean for it to be Before and After or was that just a coincidence?
Ha - no I had not even noticed, at least consciously. The mind moves in mysterious ways.
Underrated (or at least under recognized): The Third Man (1949)
Overrated: Interstellar. Let me just say it is a really good movie. I love watching it on my OLED. But a lot of people do overrate it in my opinion.
Underrated: The Crow. Something about the 90s charm really appeals to me. It doesn’t have the strongest effects. But Brandon Lee was great (RIP).
