I’m here for my hobbies, which typically don’t involve naked people. I liked tumblr back in the day because of the really strong underground music scene on it, but it just vanished all at once when they changed the rules. Really bummed me out since I made some good friends and was able to promote my music really well there.

For me, its because its the canary. If no porn, then probably too corporate for real discussion

I don’t understand people’s obsession with assuming that having a passing interest in something society frowns upon means they’re obsessed with it.

I doubt it would overwhelm threads in any meaningful way, unless it just happened to have a perfect storm of features that appealed to pornographers. So their view that “You can’t do that! It’s not right!” seems like they’re not really aiming to make a service that people can use… but a product they can sell to advertisers. Not that I doubted that anyone thought it’d be any different.

The thing is, you can have both. You just have to not go whole hog on either. You have to find a middle ground.

Making a big deal of a platform that doesn’t want to have nude content on it when there are multiple other places where you can post nudity is obsessive

Real talk, is WhatsApp more than just a text message replacement to people? I see it get brought up in talks about social media and I get very confused.

I love that this is the actual title of the article, lol.

So, it sounds like the real Twitter killer will be BlueSky (if they allow NSFW).

Yeah Bluesky allows NSFW and is pretty great, the only issue is that they’re currently restricting it to a tiny number of users. Hopefully people people get annoyed at threads over time and are eager to rush to Bluesky when it becomes available rather than just getting used to the problems.

Does nobody check the permission requirements before installing the app that quite literally steals all their data. Like every data tracking option including “other” is selected by the app, it’s so invasive they cannot launch in Europe, but people are choosing to install it?

Yea the fact this cannot even be released in the EU is one of the biggest red flags I have ever seen yet loads of people seem to not care at all. 🤷‍♂️

Let me preface this by saying that I hate Facebook just as much as other people. But this is partially false, they just haven’t been approved to release there YET getting that approval takes time. Time that Facebook didn’t have if they wanted to release quickly.
